Hersill’s experience during COVID-19, on Capital Radio
On 21 March, Capital Radio’s ‘Valor Salud’ programme featured the participation of Hersill’s manager, Oscar MartInez. He spoke with the director of this programme, Francisco García Cabello, and the programme’s interviewers, on the occasion of the 5 years that have passed since the COVID-19 was launched.
Oscar Martinez shared his perspective on how business and industry in general responded to the situation generated by the pandemic and joined forces to provide solutions. He also highlighted the collective effort and the capacity to adapt in such a complex period. He explained that the pandemic, which represented a huge challenge for everyone, was marked at Hersill by effort, stress and great commitment from everyone.
Capacity to mobilise resources
According to its manager, one of the main lessons the company learned from those months was the ability to adapt and mobilise resources quickly. “It was a great learning experience for us, in the sense that we were able to do things that we thought we would not have been able to do until then,” he said, highlighting how the company was able to adapt to the emergency and optimise its production.
A key focus during this time was the manufacture and distribution of essential medical equipment. He highlighted the production of respirators and other devices, such as oxygen flowmeters, which were crucial in the treatment of patients. He recalled the case of the field hospital at IFEMA, which was set up in record time to care for COVID-19 patients. Hersill supplied 5,100 VITAE-40 ventilators, thousands of oxygen flowmeters and suction equipment.
“We are proud to have achieved a high level of technological development, to be obsessed with working, engineering, technology and strengthening our industrial capacity,” he said, adding that this process of innovation was also key to positioning ourselves in the international market.
Need to strengthen industrial capacities
He also stressed the importance of strengthening industrial capacities within Spain, something that became clear during the health crisis. The lack of resources and equipment at certain times highlighted the need for greater production capacity in the country.
