Yesterday, 17 November 2020, the 4th Madrid 2020 SME of the Year Award was held at the Santoña Palace in Madrid, organised by Santander Bank, Spanish Chamber, the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid and Prisa, who wanted to highlight the work of small and medium-sized enterprises by generating wealth and creating jobs.
The award ceremony of this fourth edition of the awards was attended by the Vice President of the Community of Madrid, Ignacio Aguado, who accompanied the President of the Chamber of Madrid, Angel Asensio, and other authorities.
The special mention for the Best Initiative in the fight against COVID-19 was awarded to the Hersill company, which has been manufacturing medical equipment since 1973. During the pandemic, Hersill has played an important role with the manufacture of Vitae 40 transport ventilators, which have been key against the coronavirus in Spain. It also develops other indispensable equipment such as oxygen flow meters and vacuum regulators.
In his speech, the President of the Chamber of Madrid, Ángel Asensio, wanted to highlight the enormous work that companies are doing in these difficult times and recalled that “the best social shield is the company, because if there is a company, there is employment, if there is employment there is consumption and if there is a company and there is employment, there are taxes”.
The jury for the Madrid 2020 SME of the Year Award was made up of representatives from the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid; the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation, Santander Bank; and Prisa Brand Solutions (El País), who assessed the increase in activity and improvement in results; job creation; internationalisation; the introduction of innovation and digitalisation; the adoption of training measures for workers; and the socially responsible management of the 68 companies that participated in this fourth edition.
