HERSILL | NEWS | UPDATES | 19 JULY 2022
Hersill has been invited by the Presidency of the Government of Spain to participate one more year in the Memorial event of COVID-19 held in the Plaza de la Armerie of the Royal Palace of Madrid and presided over by the Kings of Spain.
The event, called “An applause for remembrance”, was a tribute to the more than 108,000 deceased and a recognition to healthcare professionals for their care of patients. Family members, representatives of the political class – the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, presidents of the autonomous communities – and representatives of civil society and the health sector attended.
The Kings have awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit to four families of health workers who have died from the pandemic. The remainder of the Grand Crosses of Civil Merit awarded posthumously were given to the families by the King after the ceremony. The monarchs also made a floral offering, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the victims. The event was conducted by journalist Xabier Fortes and featured the piano and voice interpretation of Alice Wonder of the song “Giant Fight” by Antonio Vega.
Hersill played a key role during the pandemic, joining other health workers (hospitals, institutions, companies…) in the fight against COVID-19. He was particularly notable for having managed to manufacture 5,100 Vitae 40 ventilators in 9 weeks during the harshest times of the pandemic, as well as 52,000 flow meters of oxygen and other products, when the lack of medical equipment to care for patients was a real problem.
