HERSILL | NEWS | CSR | DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION | 14 DECEMBER 2022
On December 9, we organized a charity market with our employees at Hersill’s offices. All proceeds will go to a Mile 91 Foundation project in Sierra Leone. The Milla 91 Foundation is made up of a group of volunteers who have been working in solidarity with the country since 2012. Its commitment is to transform the living conditions of a very disadvantaged people, who turn every aid aimed at improving their health, education and well-being into hope for the future.
We have sold bags, aprons and things made at the Lunsar School of Cutting and Dressmaking, in addition to “Mary Agnes Vocational Institute of the Poor Clare Missionary Sisters is a school located in a small town in Sierra Leone called Lunsar. They take in young girls in difficulty. Many became pregnant when they were almost children. Some engage in prostitution in order to survive. At the school they are given the opportunity to learn a trade to earn a living. There are 4 specialties: Dressmaking, Cooking and catering, Hairdressing and esthetics, and Secretarial and computer skills. In 2021 our company served as a warehouse for the subsequent shipment to the school of a large number of old manual sewing machines, chairs, tables, shelves and sewing material.
We have sold bags, aprons and things made at the Lunsar School of Cutting and Dressmaking. In addition, the students who finish the 2-year course of Cutting and Dressmaking receive a manual sewing machine as a gift, which will allow them to set up their own workshop (the machines are manual because in most homes there is no electricity). That same year, a major storm blew the roof off the school and destroyed many facilities. They have asked the Mile 91 Foundation to help them repair the damage and expand the tailoring workshop. We have organized the flea market to raise money for its reconstruction.
We have sold bags, aprons and things made at the Lunsar School of Cutting and Dressmaking, as well as jackets and Christmas ornaments knitted in Spain by volunteers from the IAIA association (laiaiaia.org). We have raised 760 euros, more than 10 euros per employee of the company, but success is not only measured by the money raised, but also by the emotional involvement of our employees with cooperation in general. In 2022 Hersill has donated money for projects in Spain (Madrid Food Bank, Móstoles Red Cross, Saniclown), development cooperation projects (Unicef for schools in Africa, Vicente Ferrer Foundation for equipment for a hospital in India, Recover Foundation for equipment for a hospital in Cameroon) and we have also donated 26 CPR cases to equip ambulances for Ukraine within a project led by CaixaBank Volunteers, Mensajeros de La Paz and Convento de Santa Clara Foundation.
